Screen Printing, or Seriagraphy is a printing method that is used to create many commercial and fine art products.

In this lesson, you will watch a teacher demonstration on preparing a screen in the MVHS darkroom. You will also learn the vocabulary of screen printing and then, you will create a high contrast image that will be submitted for consideration for a new MVHS T-shirt.

Using the vocabulary list, answer the following questions.

Project

You will create a simple black/white design that you will print onto a shirt.

Steps

1. Create a simple black/white design. Ideas: Use a photograph and "Live Trace" to reduce the colors and convert image to raster.
2. Print image on Phaser. Submit to Ms. Nock for copying onto transparency.
3. Use the EZ-Screen printing material to expose your screen. Be careful to rinse image without tearing.
4. Allow screen to dry 24 hours. Tape onto plastic frame.
5. Bring 1-2 tees to school to print your image onto.
6. Print at printing stations.
7. Rinse your screen well. Allow to dry 24 hours before taking home.
8. Hang tees to dry. A hairdryer will be available to speed up the drying process. Carefully handle tees with damp ink.
9. After tee air dries, place in dryer for 30 minutes on high to set the image.
10. Bring tee back to class for grade.
